“After working many years at a drawing board and computer monitor, I am drawn to the great outdoors and nature. Inspired by the work of Canadian artist Tom Thomson (1877 – 1917), I enjoy painting Plein-Air in all seasons. Light, mood, movement, atmosphere, and energy conspire to move my brush toward an impressionistic mode.”
Jeff Callender grew up along the eastern shores of Lake Michigan. He began drawing and painting at a young age, copying popular cartoon characters and attempting to emulate artist Bernie Fuchs whose illustrations adorned many a TV guide in the 1970s. After receiving a BFA from Western Michigan University, he hopped the lake to Chicago where he began a long, successful career in graphic design.
Jeff is based in Vermont with his lovely wife, Lelia. He travels across North America with paintbrush and palette in hand.
